Birthstones: June's Moonstone, Alexandrite & Pearl & Their Ethical Alternatives

Birthstones are a fascinating tradition that is still going strong. Culturally birthstone's have bounced around a bit in 20th Century to adapt to changing styles. It describes 12 stones on Aaron's breastplate (brother of Moses) which we can deduce means the 12 months of the calendar year. Originally the custom was to have all 12 stones and wear the month's stone each month, eventually this evolved into wearing only one for the month you were born.
