Design Process

What is your design process? How is it different from traditional jewelry processes?

We design each piece with exacting detail down to the last .001mm. Each bridal setting his custom made to fit the exact stone unlike traditional mass jewelry retailers that use stock settings. We carefully analyze every prong and setting to ensure it lasts forever and is practical to wear.

What metals do you work with? What is fairmined gold?

All our jewelry is made with the most ethical metals. We use Fairmined for 100% of our castings, wire and chains. For anything we can't source in Fairmined gold we rely on conventional gold. A few small speciality components like earring backs have to be conventional gold. All earrings made after Spring 2024 have Fairmined Gold posts. We pride ourselves on working with Fairmined gold because it is leading industry choice when it comes to environmental and ethical standards. We work in 14K-18K yellow gold, rose gold and white gold.

What types of stones do you work with?

We specializing in sourcing precious gemstones from suppliers that have strict ethical requirements that go beyond "conflict-free". For my diamonds we work with Carbon Capture Lab diamonds made from air pollution, Lab Grown Diamonds, Certified Recycled or reclaimed Diamonds, Certified Canadian Diamonds, Ocean Diamonds, and Artisanal Small Scale Mine (ASM) Diamonds with known provenance. Most of our collection is designed with sapphires, diamonds, or rubies. We also occasionally work with opals, and moonstones.

Conscientious Design

Valley Rose Jewelry is designed in Barcelona Spain and made by hand in Brooklyn New York. Our unique design process allows us to create objects of lasting value with minimal environmental impact. All of the wax carving and design work is done by Brittany who then works with a small production team to cast, stone set and finish the jewelry.

Sales & Discounts

No retroactive refunds for promotion events, no rain checks for sale events, and no additional promotions or discounts can be applied, only one discount per purchase.

Ring & Necklace Sizing

The best way to find your ring size is to go into a local jeweler and size your finger or ring that fits. Alternatively at home you can order a ring sizing kit or if you have a ring that fits you can print out a ring sizer page to and place the ring over the matching size. If you are in between sizes its best to size up 1/4 size. If ordering internationally and converting from non USA sizes it is also best to size up 1/4 to ensure a good fit. If your ring doesn't fit for whatever reason most of our styles are very easy to resize.

All necklace sizes are described on the product pages. We suggest getting a piece of string and measuring necklace on your neck to ensure best fit.

Please be aware that wider bands like cigar styles or any thicker style ring designs from 2.5mm band thickness and up you will need to be size up 1/4 to even 1 whole size as these style rings tend to fit tighter.

Rings or necklaces will require a fee of labor (+ shipping) to resize and are priced per design. Contact me at info@valleyrosestudio.com for pricing.

Jewelry Care Tips & Cleaning

Clean your jewelry weekly with warm water, a drop of mild detergent and a soft brush.

Jewelry with Sapphires, Rubies, Topaz, Garnets and Diamonds can be safely cleaned weekly with an ultrasonic cleaner.

Jewelry with Emerald, Amethyst, Tourmaline, Aquamarine, Morganite, Opal, Coral, Pearl or Turquoise can never be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. Also for these delicate stones avoid harsh temperatures, chemicals, skincare products, makeup and solvents.

For all jewelry when you are not wearing it, store in a jewelry box or covered box away from excessive moisture or humidity.

Our pieces are designed to last but all fine jewelry should be considered delicate and here are some general guidelines to wearing your fine jewelry.

To ensure a long life of your fine jewelry always take off when swimming, at the beach, around sand, in the pool, gardening, when using exercise equipment like weights, when doing DIY projects or around power tools, showering or sleeping.  Best to keep your jewelry away from skincare and makeup as it may cause metal discoloring from chemical reactions and thus require frequent cleaning.

Some people who's work involves working outdoors or high activity may find it helpful to put your rings on a sturdy necklace chain.

Read our Real Simple article on how to properly clean your jewelry here.

My Finger Is Discolored When Wearing 14k Gold, Why Does this Happen?

In very rare cases it is possible to get skin discoloration from wearing fine jewelry in 14 karats of rose white or yellow gold. This happens because the ph of the skin is reacting with the mixture of metals in the alloy and some people may be very sensitive to metals. Diet changes like drinking more water or water with lemon or apple cider vinegar, or routine changes like changing your skincare to a lower PH lotion can help lessen the reaction and discoloration. In extreme cases wearing 18 karat golds is recommended to avoid altogether.

Ring Sizing

I do not know their ring size but want to keep it a surprise what should I do?

You can guess your partners ring size by a number of sneaky methods. If they already wear jewelry take a ring that they wear on their ring finger and trace the inside, then measure in millimeters the diameter of the inside of the ring. You can have them try on a friend's ring "for fun" and if it fits get the ring size of the friends ring. Tracing their hand or guessing will probably not work and result in a ring that is too small or too big.

If all of those options are not available to you for non pave band styles you can order the ring in a 7 which is the "average" size and resize it later after the proposal. For pave band styles it is best to know their ring size within a half a ring size to avoid issues with resizing it later.

How do I find their ring size?

The best way is to get a ring sizing kit or go into a local jeweler to have them sized.

What if the ring is the wrong size?

All of our rings can be resized. Some styles can handle sizing up to 2 sizes and some styles can only be resized within a half size as it might distort them too much. Best to find the ring size as close as possible before you order. Resizing rings is a straightforward process for most of our styles. You can even get your ring size adjusted multiple times if your fingers fluctuate in the future like postpartum after a pregnancy or any health changes.

Materials & Options

What is Satin, Matte and Glossy Finish?

This refers to the finish of the metal and the choices are:

1. matte finish where the metal looks sparkly and rustic.

2. Satin finish where the metal looks a little but more shiny but is still soft and sparkly.

3. glossy finish which has a brighter and lustrous appearance.

We finish our pieces with Satin by default because it is easy to maintain, doesn't show scratches easily and still is shiny and luxe looking. Matte finish jewelry is also easy to maintain. Glossy finish is the brightest and shiniest but it will show scratches easily and need regular polishing to keep up it's luster.

What are 4 Prongs, 6 Prongs, and Claw or Round Prongs?

Our rings are semi customizable and since we make them from scratch you have the option to choose the design of the prongs. These are the parts of metal that hold your center stone.

Both these styles wear well and are sturdy but all give a distinct look. Claw prongs are edgier and modern, where round prongs are softer and more romantic.

What is 14k vs 18k Fairmined Gold?

14k and 18k refers to the content of gold in the alloy. 14k has 58.3% gold and 18k is 75% gold content. Both Karats are standard alloys for bridal jewelry. Since 18k has slightly more gold content it is technically a bit softer, but offers a much deeper gold color. 14k is the strongest and is a paler gold color.

Fairmined gold refers to the gold certification that we work with. We work with fairmined certified gold because it is the only gold that is certified ethical by offering fair pair to miners, sustainability improvements to mining operations, and safe toxic chemical handling. You can read more on it here.

What is Rhodium Plated White Gold or Palladium White Gold?

The industry standard for 14k and 18k white gold is actually given a plating of Rhodium to make it extra bright white. This does require upkeep and replating with Rhodium from time to time to return it to its bright white color.

Unplated 14k white gold is a bit warmer and darker because of the mix of metals in the alloy. We also offer unplated white golds for a richer darker white metal and less upkeep down the line. Simply send us an email help@valleyrosestudio.com if you would like your piece to be unplated.

Palladium white gold in 14k or 18k is also an option for those sensitive to nickel and those that want a brighter white gold without having to replate it in the future. Email us at help@valleyrosestudio.com to get a quote in Palladium white gold.

Do you work in Platinum?

We do offer certified recycled Platinum. Email us help@valleyrosestudio.com to get a quote for a setting in platinum.

Do you work with Recycled Gold?

How are your rings different from everyone else?

Instead of setting stones in generic stock gold settings we custom make each setting to fit the unique center stone and your unique ring size. This ensures a well designed beautiful ring with superior structural integrity.

We also ethically source our metals and gemstones to ensure fair pay, and a positive  impact on people and planet. To learn more about our ethical sourcing click here.

How are your sapphires sourced?

We hand select each one of our Sapphires based on years of expertise of working with these incredible stones. We look for color balance, inclusions and cut quality to ensure each stone we offer meets our high standard of excellence. We work with lapidaries around the world that have a direct connection to miners as well. In some cases our lapidaries are also the miners. We work with stone dealers that share our same passion of quality, and ethical sourcing.

How do I tell how big the gemstones are?

All the gemstone sizes are displayed on the product page, if you would like to make sure a stone is the right size and proportion to your finger size email us at help@valleyrosestudio.com and we can send you a virtual try on rendering with your finger size and stone dimensions. You can also trace out the stone dimensions with a ruler and cutout to place on you finger to get an idea of the proportions.

I do not see a setting I like, can you do a custom setting?

We offer customizations to any of our settings email us at help@valleyrosestudio.com for more information.

I do not see a sapphire color I like can you find me a specific color or cut?

We offer custom sourcing and our lapidaries can even cut a custom sapphire in creative shapes like kite and hexagon. Email us at help@valleyrosestudio.com to learn more.

What is the difference between Recycled Diamonds and Lab Diamonds?

Recycled diamonds are diamonds that are either dead stock or have been used in another piece of jewelry then repurposed for new jewelry. They were originally mined from the earth at origin but their sourcing details are unknown.

Lab diamonds are real diamonds, the only difference is that they were made in a lab under controlled conditions. They have the same chemical structure as earth made diamonds.

Are Lab Diamonds real diamonds?

Yes all Lab Diamonds are considered real diamonds according to GIA the gemological Institute of America and have an identical chemical makeup. Special tools are needed to tell the difference between a lab diamond or an earth grown diamond. But to the naked eye they are identical.

What are diamonds made from air pollution?

Do your stones come with GIA grading?

Our curated collection of sapphires can be GIA graded on request for any stone 0.8 carats and up. All our lab and recycled diamonds 0.8cts and up come with professional grading reports.
